In the gripping finale of “Celebrity Traitors,” the funny man flipped the script and fooled everyone. Viewers had all but counted him out in the second-to-last episode, but Carr clawed his way back with clever misdirection and flawless timing. The moment he exposed himself as the final Traitor, emotions exploded, and so did the internet.

Carr, 49, wasn’t smiling when he won, though. The comedian was crying, apologizing, and almost shaking. The game had taken everything out of him. He was crying from guilt, from exhaustion, from knowing he had just lied to people who trusted him, all for a prize he wasn’t even keeping.

Of course, most of Nick’s real reaction, full of “effing and blinding,” was edited out of the broadcast. But even in the betrayal, the respect was real.

“All the deceit, the lying, the murdering of Paloma and Celia took its toll,” he said. That wasn’t just game play. Paloma Faith is a close friend of his. He had to “kill” her in-game, knowing full well it would hurt her trust.

Then came the win. £87,500 wasn’t going into his pocket. It was going straight to Neuroblastoma UK, a charity he supports deeply. When he called someone at the charity to share the news, they cried. That is when it hit him.

Alan Carr Didn’t Win for Himself

Neuroblastoma is a rare and aggressive childhood cancer, and it is not on most people’s radar. Carr wanted to change that. By playing the long con and coming out on top, he gave the charity a huge financial boost and put its name in front of millions of viewers. In a way, that is a bigger win than the game itself.

Jonathan Ross, another Traitor, later admitted that parts of the experience were “horrible.” He said there were car rides home after filming where he and Carr sat with their “heads in their hands.” That is the side of “Celebrity Traitors” we don’t see, the part where the scheming isn’t fun anymore, and guilt creeps in when the cameras stop.
